![]() Wow, now I'm really confused! I've been operating on the assumption that both a very good ear and a suitable measurement device would tend to agree that a theoretically "perfect" sound system had produced a more or less "flat response." But if I understand this chart correctly, it seems that a system that sounded flat to this same good ear would, as measured, look very similar to this chart (showing far lower dB in the 2KHz - 4KHz range (in the human sweet-spot), than at 20Hz (in the human weak spot)). ![]() Just trying to get a visual grasp on real world volume differences vs numbers as well as understanding how much power people are actually using when they listen to their music. So if most people say listen to music at #25 or lower on the dial.then why would they opt for 1200 watts if we assume they are just using 1 subwoofer? I mean I get the deeper louder thing but that should be relative to volume # used right? If so then who the heck listens to their music at max all the time? In that case I could see opting for the 1200 watts if you have multiple subs or maybe if you EQ the higher frequencies down so you can have the lowest frequencies louder but since most use 80hz and I'm assuming most in car frequencies are not usually that flat.I know 80hz is a lot louder than 40 hz for me and I'm using sealed box in a hatch. Wouldn't that 1200 watts only matter if you listen to your music at max volume and want to listen to it louder than #50 on the dial for that extra headroom without distortion? So if a 1200 watt amp is considered 3dB's louder than 600 watts and your maximum volume set at gain is #50 giving you clean sound. 10dB is double the volume so would that be akin to going from #20 on the volume dial to # 23 or is it perceptually like going from volume #20 to volume #40?Ī second question is relative to how much amplifier power one needs vs wants. ![]() I read that 3dB is considered a "slightly noticeable" difference and slightly noticeable difference to me is akin to bumping my audio volume 1 notch/number higher or lower. How much louder is 3dB to our ears in the real world? 1 or 2 notches on the volume dial? Going from 1 watt to 2 watts of amplifier power gains 3dB of additional output and so on.
